Services – What You Can Expect When Working With Me:
First session: If you’re new to therapy, you may wonder if therapy in real life is like therapy in the movies…will it involve laying on a couch with tears streaming down your face while a stranger reads your mind and blames your childhood?
That’s not going to happen.
In therapy, my job is to look for all the ways in which what’s going on makes sense. People are complicated. Situations can be layered.
I work with adults in Alberta. I have advanced training in Accelerated Resolution Therapy which is a trauma-treatment that changes how the brain stores images and memories so that they are no longer triggering. It’s an important tool when just talking about a problem isn’t enough.
I offer an outside perspective that includes looking for your strengths, and helping you see your blindspots. You know why you’re here and I am honoured to make space for all of it.
More than any one thing, the warmth and connection of a therapy relationship is the most important ingredient to effective therapy.
You may want to dive right into the hard stuff, or you may take some time before you’re ready for that. In therapy we’ll talk and sometimes laugh, and together we’ll find a way through the stuck places.
Before the first visit, I’ll have you fill out some online paperwork and sign releases. On the first session, we’ll review that information and start to get a full sense of what’s bringing you to therapy. Sessions are $200 - $220 and they are billed at a 50-minute hour in keeping with the College of Alberta Psychologists.
As for payment and insurance information, the virtual admin at Stillwater Therapy will help you with all that.
My registered psychologist designation should make it easy for you to use your benefits for payment. However, it’s important for you to know whether your benefits cover.
I return emails quickly so if you haven’t heard from me in a couple of days, please check your spam folder or junk mail.
I look forward to meeting with you.
My in-person office is located inside Stillwater Therapy in Stone Creek Village at Unit 306, 108 Riverstone Ridge, Fort McMurray, Alberta.
You can contact me to see how soon I have appointments available.
I also offer virtual therapy within Alberta.
